Harrow Weald Recreation Ground (Boxtree Park) – Planned Improvements

We are pleased to share plans for improvements to Harrow Weald Recreation Ground, also known locally as Boxtree Park, as part of our ongoing commitment to improving parks and green spaces across the borough.

Following site visits earlier this year, we have identified opportunities to invest in this much-loved local park, making it safer, more accessible and enjoyable for everyone throughout the year.

Why are we making these improvements?

We want our parks to be welcoming, accessible and enjoyable places for everyone.

As part of our ongoing approach to improving parks across the borough, we are prioritising the condition of paths and access routes to help ensure visitors can move around safely and comfortably throughout the year.

The planned investment at Harrow Weald Recreation Ground will help improve the overall visitor experience, making it easier for people of all ages and abilities to enjoy the park.

Phase 1 – Improving paths and car parks

Our first priority is to improve the park's paths and access routes, helping to ensure they are safe, smooth and accessible for visitors in all seasons.

The first phase of improvements will include:

  • Resurfacing paths across the park to provide smoother, safer routes for walking, wheeling and enjoying the park throughout the year.

  • Resurfacing and relining both car parks to improve their condition, layout and ease of use for visitors.

  • Introducing designated disabled parking bays to improve accessibility for park users.

  • Creating a clear space at the entrance to the tennis courts to improve access and ensure the entrance remains unobstructed.

These works are currently planned to take place over the winter months, with an anticipated start in November 2026.

You can view the proposed improvements in the plan attached to this page.

How will the works affect park visitors?

We will aim to keep disruption to park users to a minimum while the improvements are carried out.

During the works, some paths and sections of the park may need to be temporarily closed or have restricted access to allow the work to take place safely. However, the rest of the park will remain open and accessible for visitors to enjoy.

The improvements to the two car parks are expected to cause the most disruption, as parking areas may need to be temporarily closed while resurfacing and relining works take place.

We will aim to provide advance notice of any planned closures or access restrictions, with information displayed in the park closer to the start of the works, so visitors can plan their visits accordingly.

We appreciate your patience and understanding while we carry out these improvements.

What happens next?

This is just the first phase of our planned investment in Harrow Weald Recreation Ground.

We are also developing proposals for improvements to the children's playground and new park entrance information boards, with further works expected to follow in 2027.

We will share more information as these plans progress, including updates on the programme of works and what park visitors can expect.

Keeping you updated

We want to make sure local residents and park visitors are kept informed as the improvements progress.

We will continue to provide updates through this page, including further details on the timing of works, any temporary closures or changes to access arrangements, and progress on future improvements.

We will also share information about the next phase of investment, including proposals for the children's playground and park entrance boards, as these plans develop.

Our aim is to make Harrow Weald Recreation Ground an even more welcoming, accessible and enjoyable green space for the local community, while protecting the character of the park that residents know and value.
