Harrow Safe Havens
Expression of Interest
We know that there are businesses and organisations that want to get more involved in making Harrow safer, particularly for women. Safe Havens are a temporary place for a person to get assistance if they are feeling unsafe and to allow them to continue their journey. We are giving the opportunity to local places to become Safe Havens for free.
Use the survey below to express interest in your organisation joining the scheme.
What is a Safe Haven?
Women who feel threatened, are being harassed on the street or feel unsafe can attend a Safe Haven location for some temporary help. The scheme has been designed specifically around women and girl’s safety, but the Safe Havens are open to support anyone feeling vulnerable or in need of help.
London Borough of Harrow are partnering with Safer Business Network to run this initiative, and are offering free training to any businesses or locations that would like to become a Safe Haven.
We are encouraging local places such as shops, cafes, pubs, salons, libraries, places of worship, and stations to apply to become Safe Havens to help women with their onward journeys. This might include: helping organise safe transport home, allowing the individual to charge their phone, contacting family/friends, or, if required, making a phone call to the emergency services. Safe Havens will not directly intervene in someone’s problems.

The process
Training to staff will be offered for free to enable the employees to feel confident in dealing with members of the public, bearing in mind that you cannot provide specialist support. Once training has been provided, the location should clearly display the Safe Haven logo in a window/door (which will be provided by London Borough of Harrow).
Once trained, your organisation would be included as a delivery partner in communications and will also be included in any digital communications for the public to identify the location of the Safe Havens.
We need your support to be able to deliver Safe Havens across Harrow to help tackle violence against women and girls in public spaces. We want to ensure Harrow remains safe for women working, living or visiting our borough.
