Improvements to Pinner Road/Station Road Junction
If you live, work, travel or go to school in North Harrow, you may regularly use the Pinner Road and Station Road junction.
We are proposing changes to make the junction safer, easier and more accessible, particularly for people walking and cycling. The proposals include new controlled pedestrian crossings, improved cycling facilities and changes to some turning movements at the junction.
We want to hear your views before any decision is made.
The consultation is open from 22 September to 2 November 2026.
Why are we proposing changes?
The Pinner Road and Station Road junction is a busy route used by local residents, school children and people travelling through North Harrow.
Previous engagement has highlighted concerns about road safety, crossing the road and facilities for people walking and cycling.
At present, there are no controlled pedestrian crossings on three sides of the junction. This can make crossing difficult, particularly at busy times and for people who may need extra support, including children, older and disabled people, people with visual impairments, and those using a mobility aid or pushing a pram.
The junction has also experienced a number of collisions involving pedestrians, cyclists and vehicles. We have therefore explored different options to improve safety while ensuring the junction continues to operate effectively.
Local groups have also taken part in workshops to tell us about issues at the junction and help develop the proposals.
The London Borough of Harrow is working with Transport for London (TfL), which is funding the scheme.
What are we proposing?
The proposed changes include:
- New controlled pedestrian crossings on all approaches to the junction, allowing people to cross in one movement without having to wait on a central island.
- A new dedicated cycle crossing on Station Road, connecting with the existing two-way cycle track towards Harrow.
- Shared use footways at the corners of the junction, allowing cyclists to travel through the junction without mixing with traffic.
- Wider footways at the corners, reducing crossing distances for pedestrians and cyclists and helping to reduce vehicle speeds.
- A left turn restriction from Pinner Road (north west) into Station Road (north east).
- A right turn restriction from Station Road (north east) into Pinner Road (north west).
The proposed turning restrictions would help address identified safety issues and allow the new controlled pedestrian and cycle crossings to be introduced.
We have also considered how the changes could affect traffic on surrounding roads. Read our Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) for more information about traffic, access and the proposed turning restrictions.

Improving the area
We are also exploring other improvements around the junction. Previous engagement in North Harrow has highlighted interest in trees and planting, measures to help reduce flooding, seating, litter bins, lighting and public art.
What can be included will depend on available funding and what is physically possible at the junction. As part of the consultation, we would like to know which improvements you would most like to see.

What happens next?
We will consider your feedback alongside the technical information before a final decision is made.
The consultation results will be shared with local ward councillors and reviewed by the Highways Decision Board. The Board will decide whether the scheme should progress to the next stage, and the proposals may be revised following feedback received during the consultation.
We will update this page with the consultation results and final decision.
If approved, construction is expected to start in spring/summer 2027.
